The 2007 Capacity Building Retreat
In August 2007, the Foundation supported a Strategic Management Retreat. In collaboration with the RGK Center for Philanthropy and Community Service at the University of Texas and Greenlights for Nonprofit Success, St. David’s Community Health Foundation sponsored a retreat for the executive directors and board chairs of 30 Central Texas nonprofits. The three-day retreat was held at the Crossings in Austin, and led by faculty from the University of Texas and Harvard University who taught sessions on strategic components of both governance and operations, including two sessions on nonprofit marketing and branding.
Several retreat participants are currently working with LBJ School graduate student consultants—under the supervision of UT faculty and Greenlights staff—to implement the strategic frameworks introduced at the retreat, including analysis of an organization’s competitive positioning and various governance and performance measurement tools.
